Biodiversity & Bugs

In this investigative workshop pupils hunt around the school grounds for bugs of all shapes and sizes, collect them with the pooters* provided then learn how to classify what they’ve found.

There’s a choice of how to record the data, either by producing an Insect Identification Chart, or by producing Species Variation Drawings, just like Charles Darwin used to! The workshop ends with a discussion about biodiversity; what it is and why it is important to life on our planet.

*pooter – a small device used for collecting and studying insects. Not harmful to children or insects.
